CONTEXTEComment les cerveaux des êtres sociaux donnent-ils un sens à leurs sociétés ? Dans le cadre du projet ERC européen NEURO-SOCIETY, l’équipe de Neurophysiologie de la Cognition Sociale recherche deux chercheur.ses postdoctoraux exceptionnels. Dans l’un des projets, le ou la chercheur.euse postdoctoral.e (durée renouvelable) développera de nouvelles approches pour examiner la représentation neuronale des relations sociales chez les primates en combinant neuroimagerie et tests sur écran tactile. Dans un deuxième projet, le ou la chercheur.euse postdoctoral.e (durée renouvelable) étudiera comment différentes modalités sensorielles (vision, ouïe, olfaction) donnent naissance aux mêmes concepts sociaux, en combinant neuroimagerie et neurophysiologie. Ces approches constitueront une première étape pour comprendre les mécanismes neuronaux qui sous-tendent la création de concepts sociaux chez les primates.
Au sein de l'Institut du Cerveau de Paris, l’équipe de Neurophysiologie de la Cognition Sociale dirigé par Julia Sliwa étudie les mécanismes cérébraux qui permettent la transformation des perceptions sociales en connaissances sociales, à l'aide d'une combinaison de tests éthologiques chez les primates, de neuro-imagerie (IRMf), de neurophysiologie et d'analyses de grands ensembles de données: www.sliwalab.org
MISSIONS PRINCIPALESRattaché à l’équipe Neurophysiologie de la Cognition Sociale, la personne recrutée sera chargé des missions suivantes :
Expérimentation:
- Conception et exécution de méthodes visant à comprendre la perception et la cognition sociale chez le primate non-humain
- Acquisitions par Imagerie par Résonance Magnétique fonctionnelle IRMf et/ou neurophysiologie
- Mise en place et programmation de taches comportementales et cognitives, entraînements et test des animaux
- Planification, préparation et participation aux chirurgies, anesthésies, soins, traitements
- Respect du protocole éthique et des directives nationales
- Travail en équipe et avec les plateformes
Analyses:
- Mise en place d’outils et de programmes d'analyse statistique des données
- Analyses des données d'imagerie, comportementales et/ou de neurophysiologie
- Rédaction de la traçabilité des analyses et expériences et archivage des projets (GitLab, Git, Wiki)
Présentations des résultats et mise en contexte:
- Veille bibliographique
- Présentation des résultats en réunion d'équipe et en conférences
- Écriture d'articles scientifiques
Encadrement, animation et intérêt collectif:
- Participation et animation de journal-clubs et réunions d’équipe
- Etre en support pour les étudiants et les stagiaires de l’équipe
- Participation à l'écriture de projets et des protocoles
- Etre responsable d’une tache collective de l’équipe (ex. serre-file, organisateur journal-club, référent informatique)
CONDITIONS PARTICULIERES
- Des astreintes ainsi que certains traitements vétérinaires, protocoles d’imagerie ou comportementaux peuvent nécessiter de venir le week-end.
- Des déplacements peuvent être organisés vers des centres PNH en France (ex Station de Primatologie de Rousset, Centre de Primatologie de Strasbourg) pour participer à des prélèvements ou des tests comportementaux
- Le poste est disponible à partir de Novembre 2025 avec une première nomination de 1.5 ans. Une prolongation au-delà de 1.5 ans est possible.
- La date de début est flexible et les candidatures seront considérées jusqu'à ce que le poste soit pourvu.
- Le poste est entièrement financé par un financement européen ERC (NEURO-SOCIETY, PI : Sliwa) et un financement collaboratif ICM/Pasteur/McGill (BBT4 PRIDES, PI : Sliwa). Cependant, les candidats pourront postuler pour une bourse personnelle compétitive (HFSP, FRM, Marie-Sklodowska Curie, etc.).

CONTEXTHow do the brains of social beings make sense of their societies? As part of the European ERC project NEURO-SOCIETY, the Social Cognition Neurophysiology Team is seeking two outstanding postdoctoral researchers.
In the first project, the postdoctoral researcher (renewable term) will develop new approaches to examine the neural representation of social relationships in primates, combining neuroimaging and touchscreen behavioral testing.
In the second project, the postdoctoral researcher (renewable term) will study how different sensory modalities (vision, audition, olfaction) give rise to the same social concepts, combining neuroimaging and neurophysiology. These approaches will constitute a first step toward understanding the neuronal mechanisms underlying the creation of social concepts in primates.
At the Paris Brain Institute, the Social Cognition Neurophysiology team, led by Julia Sliwa, investigates the brain mechanisms that transform social perceptions into social knowledge, using a combination of ethological tests in primates, neuroimaging (fMRI), neurophysiology, and large-scale data analyses: www.sliwalab.org
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
Experimental work:
- Design and implementation of methods to study perception and social cognition in non-human primates (NHPs)
- Acquisition of functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) and/or neurophysiological data
- Development and programming of behavioral and cognitive tasks; animal training and testing
- Planning, preparation, and participation in surgeries, anesthesia, euthanasia, care, and treatments
- Compliance with ethical protocols and national guidelines
- Collaborative work with team members and core facilities
Data analysis:
- Development of tools and programs for statistical data analysis
- Analysis of imaging, behavioral, and/or neurophysiological data
- Documentation, traceability, and archiving of analyses and experiments (GitLab, Git, Wiki)
Presentation and dissemination:
- Literature review and bibliographic monitoring
- Presentation of results in team meetings and conferences
- Writing of scientific articles
Mentoring, team engagement, and collective tasks:
- Participation in and facilitation of journal clubs and team meetings
- Support for students and interns within the team
- Contribution to project and protocol writing
- Responsibility for a collective team task (e.g., safety officer, journal club organizer, IT referent)
SPECIFIC CONDITIONS
- Some duties (animal care, veterinary treatments, imaging or behavioral protocols) may require weekend work.
- Travel within France (e.g., Station de Primatologie in Rousset, Centre de Primatologie in Strasbourg) may be required for sample collection or behavioral testing.
- The position is available starting November 2025, with an initial appointment of 1.5 years. Extension beyond this period is possible.
- The start date is flexible, and applications will be considered until the position is filled.
- The position is fully funded by a European ERC grant (NEURO-SOCIETY, PI: Sliwa) and a collaborative ICM/Pasteur/McGill grant (BBT4 PRIDES, PI: Sliwa). However, candidates are encouraged to apply for competitive personal fellowships (HFSP, FRM, Marie Skłodowska-Curie, etc.).
