Lab Manager (F/H)

The Paris Brain Institute is an international research centre that brings patients, researchers and medical doctors together to understand and treat disorders of the nervous system. Training of young researchers with diverse origins, training, background is essential. The Wyart lab at the Paris Brain Institute is a highly interdisciplinary team composed on molecular and cell biologists, physiologists, physicists, computer scientists and ecologists. To bring people on the same page, the Wyart lab recruits a lab manager.

MISSIONS AND ACTIVITIES OF THE LAB MANAGER

The Wyart lab recruits an experienced lab manager who will contribute to the organizational and operational aspects of the laboratory’s research activities. The candidate will work under the direct supervision of Claire Wyart, the lab head and Feng Quan and Kevin Fidelin, project managers in the team. She/he will bring molecular biology expertise to advance our understanding of movement-related neuronal populations in the brainstem at the molecular, circuit and behavioural levels, in health and disease, and across vertebrate model organisms. The Lab Manager position involves a high discipline, versatility, autonomy, being highly proactive, supportive, didactic and dynamic to teach good practices to all lab members. Rigor and organizational skills are an absolute must. The main missions of the recruited lab manager are:

Daily lab operations :
  • Order and archive reagents and small equipment
  • Manage stocks and organisation of molecular and cellular biology reagents
  • Organise and maintain lab databases, assignment of lab jobs to each lab members
  • Organise the contract, arrival, access and training of new lab members
  • Maintain lab equipment (organise maintenance contracts and regular updates or repairs)
  • Represent the lab at institute-level meetings to optimize collective practice
  • Contact facility managers for outsourcing specific services (single-cell sequencing, genotyping, …)
  • Coordinate internal communication between the lab and core facilities (PhenoZfish for animal experimentation, ICM.Quant for imaging, Histomics and NeuroCEB for histology, E3M FACS…)
  • Coordinate reporting with the finance department and corresponding lab members receiving support

Scientific projects :

  • CRISPR/Cas-based generation of zebrafish transgenic lines via early morning injections
  • Multiplexed Hybridization Chain Reaction (HCR) approaches in situ
  • Single-cell and spatial transcriptomics approaches in mouse and zebrafish

Time schedule and location :

  • No teleworking
  • Injections to generate novel genetic modified organisms require coming early in the morning
  • The lab manager may have to come to the laboratory during the weekend on exceptional occasions, when animal care requires it.
  • The candidate will need to travel for training & conferences, in Ile-de-France & occasionally abroad
Profil recherché
  • BTS/DUT, Bachelor of Science, or Master of Science in molecular and cellular biology
  • Substantial wet laboratory experiences (ideally 3-5 years minimum, but junior candidates will be considered if they can justify previous lab experiences)

Know-How:
  • Possess excellent organizational skills
  • Feel proud of writing / checking protocols, fixing issues involving refined communication with different researchers
  • Be comfortable with multi-tasking
  • Have robust laboratory experiences with molecular biology techniques
  • Have experienced working with animals, a previous experience with the zebrafish model will be considered a big plus

Knowledge :
  • Speak and write English fluently

Soft skills :

  • Love explaining and sharing her/his knowledge to new lab members
  • Be passionate about biology and curious to enter the field of neuroscience
