Grants Officer

 CONTEXT

The Paris Brain Institute is looking for an Early-Career-Researchers (ECR) Grants Officer for the Department of International Alliances & Competitive Funding.

The Grants Office team is instrumental in the operational management of research proposal and fellowship applications development and submission, and in ensuring compliance with both funders and the Institute’s internal policies.

The mission of the department is to support all grant applications as well as to stimulate and facilitate the development of collaborative projects at the national, European and international partnerships.

 

MAIN MISSIONS

Reporting to the Head of the Grants Office, the Grants Officer will be responsible for the following tasks:

 

  • Providing pro-active support and advice to junior scientists on funding opportunities and in the development, approval, submission of funding proposals and activation of awards.
  • Engaging with all funders targeting the development of ECR’s career such as EMBO, HFSP, FEBS, national and regional fellowships, etc
  • Providing specialist expertise with respect to research application processes (including funder specific terms & conditions, costing, ethics and aspects of research contracts).
  • Drafting (non-scientific) elements of the proposal as required.
  • Coordinating grant proposal costing and budgeting, considering the funder specific eligible cost rules and the Institute costing practices.
  • Ensuring that budgets are approved by the relevant person prior to submission of the proposal.
  • Reviewing, drafting and providing input into negotiations for grant and grant-related agreements (liaising with the Legal department if needed).
  • Working closely with other colleagues in Operations, especially the Finance team members to ensure smooth activation of the grant, the Education team for the development of tailored-made program for the ECR community and quick recruitment or allocation process with HR. The candidate is also expected to contribute to the launch of the alumni programme.
  • Providing a first line help desk for queries with funders regarding issues.
  • Contributing to the review, development and improvement of pre-award procedures and systems to facilitate efficient and effective pre-award support.

 

The position requires flexibility, autonomy, a collaborative mindset as well as the rigorous management of impactful projects. The Grants Officer might be invited to travel occasionally. This list of tasks is not exhaustive.

 

 

Salary

  • 39 000€ – 45 000€ - subject to skills and experience.

Profil recherché

 

  • PhD experience, Biology/Data Science preferred, Neuroscience is a plus
  • Postdoctoral experience is a plus
  • Prior experience in grants proposal writing and management (at least 2 years)

 

Know-how

  • Ability to interact with scientific stakeholders in a multi-cultural context
  • Ability to work with and maintain a network
  • Ability to synthesize scientific data, bibliometric analysis
